I spent the time from 15 JUNE to 17 JUNE attending the DEEP SOUTH SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION which happened in HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA.  I had a good if sad time, looking around and realizing that one of my serious fanaticisms which had been changing for "3 Whiles'' was on Oxygen though _not_ full fledged life support AND that the "Fandom'' that followed it was literally [the best puns are unintentional] dying off.

The convention hotel was close to or actually booked up, and there were 300+ people around but I saw only a double handful or so under the age of 42.

Well, o.k. I was not serving Likker so I did not look at identification of any kind but so may had retired AND MENTIONED THAT, in my hearing that i could guess accurately.  In addition, there were very few costumes which is usually something only younger people get involved with, as they are more likely to be able to FIT in the things.  Further, almost everyone got my jokes, which requires someone rather advanced in years.

But it made me wonder if there will even BE an organized, _conventional_ fandom past 2021 or so.  Someone has to DO the organizing and the contracting and the other manure.  I am no longer very sure that there will be a someone to do that.

Whoops I found it and it is up now.  Sorry, going off to cook some lunch.

I used to have something called THE ORANGE MOUSE but i lost the computer that the access code was stored on. This new one also carries a name from my days as a member of an Amateur Press Association, which is a USER GROUP before there was any sort of net ,even DARPA, for such things go back into the 1930 s if not the 20 s of last century.
Bog [if U don't get who/what Bog is, then you really should not be let out at night ! ] I feel so OLD saying "last century" but ... it is true.
Anyway, now I'm on here and I will natter twice a week or so. No time to do more, even in a SEMI-RETIRED state. Stuff has to be done and I am the only one to do it.
Nothing much to go on about except that I am looking for a particular web log other than my old one and I will come back after I find it----or stop looking. Wish I still had the illustration for the Militaristic Gerbils that Jerry Collins drew for me but "Life's a Beach and then you Fry".
